Feels good, but I'm a little bored right (okay maybe a lot) because everyone else is studying, doing something else.

It's kinda weird to think I will never see many of my closest friends...ever. Sad times.

Wednesday, May 17, 2006

A man said to the universe:

"Sir, I exist."
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."

vs.

O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that
thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast
ordained;
What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his
feet:
All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

I like what James W. Sire in the UNIVERSE NEXT DOOR says:
"There is a world of difference between the worldviews of these two poems. Indeed, they propose alternative universes. Yet both poems reverberate in the minds and souls of people today. Many who stand with Stephen Crane have more than a memory of the psalmist's great and glorious assurance of God's hands in the cosmos and God's love for his people. They long for what they no longer can truly accept. The gap left by the loss of a center of life is like the chasm in the heart of a child whose father has died. How those who no longer believe in God wish something could fill this void.
"And many who yet stand with the psalmist and whose faith in the Lord God Jehovah is vital and brimming still feel the tug of Crane's poem. Yes, that is exactly how it is to lose God. Yes, that is just what those who do not have faith in the infinite-personal Lord of the Universe must feel--alienation, loneliness, even despair.
"We recall the struggles of faith in our nineteenth-century forebears and know that for many faith was the loser. As Alfred, Lord Tennyson wrote in response to the death of his close friend,

Behold, we know not anything;
I can but trust that good shall fall
At last--far off--at last, to all
And every winter change to spring.
So runs my dream; but what am I?
An infant crying in the night;
An infant crying for the light
And with no language but a cry.

And then Sire goes on to explain the purpose of his book. But it's all just something to chew on.

Monday, April 24, 2006

TRANSLATING THE FEMALE LANGUAGE...here's some help to the poor, innocent guys out there

when a women says this she means = this. I am just giving a warning. On my mind: famous CS Lewis quote on God not being safe but Good, and Heidegger. Only I could be thinking about two brilliant thinkers who are on complete different sides on just about everything. As an added bonus I've been thinking about Proverbs and adultery.

Sunday, January 22, 2006
There are so many good talks on this website. This is what happened to me over the break.

i got some rest and relaxation.

Then it was present shopping time. Crap! Well, I didn't get my brother anything b/c we just decided to save money. I got my dad a book he wanted and my mom 2 books she wanted. As for me i got 5-6 books that I got to pick out about a week before Christmas. The Weight of Glory, The Divine Conspiracy, and the Cost of Discipleship, and some others. Great Books! As for presents I didn't get myself i got a few clothes and a frame to hold my diploma. Sounds like an exciting Christmas (sarcasm). well, when you love to read as much as I do, then it is. But Christmas was pretty sparse around the Suit household b/c everyone was busy and most of our Christmas money was going towards plane tickets.

Here is where the real fun began. Molly Hamrcik invited me, Brandon, and Bethany to her house in Jacksonville, Florida. She has lots of land and a pretty big house. It was gorgeous! It was so great to seee those guys. We didn't do much, but I did babysit on the first night for an infant, a little boy, and a little girl (about 4-5 yrs old). I got to feed the baby....they are so messy. After a while, the girl took a liking to me and kept wanting me to read to her but when she didn't like the picture she would just go and find another book for me to read. Soon we were cycling through the same books over and over again. At the end she was having fun crawling all over me. I got a kiss on the nose at the end by her so I couldn't have done too bad.

Didn't really do much at Hamricks. A lot of reading and sleeping, which was fine by me. It is so peaceful there. They had an amazing New Year's party. Fun, Food, and fellowship was amazing. I EVEN DID LINE DANCING (not that i actually knew what i was doing). And later on we did "Pride and Predjuice" Dancing. If you have seen PandP then you will remember the dancing at the very beginning--we were basically doing the same sort of stuff. The person who taught us this dancing said it came from the Revolutionary War period. If you really like P and P then you should come to the Hamrick's New Year's Eve party for may be you will get to dance like you are in Pride and Predjuice. And yes I DID DANCE. I'm not making this up.

That was most of my christmas break.
